One thing we want to analyze here at Howlin’ Hockey is when we might be seeing a trade from the Arizona Coyotes.

To do that we are going to look to the past to see what months the Arizona Coyotes have made in-season trades under GM John Chayka.

2016-17 Season

The Coyotes started to make some movies in December during the 2017-17 season. They made a trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs to send Peter Holland to Arizona for a draft pick. Then the ‘Yotes followed it up with a trade-in January to send Henrik Samuelsson to Edmonton.

In February the ‘Yotes made a few moves. On the first, they made a trade with Dallas to send Justin Peters and Justin Hache to Dallas in exchange for Brendan Ranford, Branden Troock.

The Coyotes also made deals with Calagary Minnesota and Colorado to end the year. The most notable player traded from Arizona was Martin Hanzal, who went to Minnesota at the time.

2016-17 was something of a lost year for the Coyotes. The ‘Yotes under Dave Tippett finished the season with a record of 30-42-10 so it makes sense why they gave up so much at the deadline.

2017-18 Season

The 2017-18 season started off with a bang for the ‘Yotes. They made a rare October trade when they brought in Scott Wedgewood from the New Jersey Devils in exchange for a 5th round draft pick.

In November they made a trade with the Tampa Bay Lighting to bring in Michael Leighton from the Lightning in exchange for Louis Domingue and Tyler Mcginn.

In December they made two trades with the Devils and Pittsburgh. Then in January, they made a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks to bring in Richard Panik. Later in January, they made a trade with the Columbus Blue Jackets to bring in John Ramage.

February had two trades, but I only care about one. The Arizona Coyotes made a trade with the LA Kings to bring in goaltender Darcy Kuemper. This is a trade that will always be viewed as a win in my eyes especially considering Kuemper’s role with the team now.

2018-19 Season

The 2018-19 also had some key trades. November the Coyotes cleaned house and brought in Nick Schmaltz for the struggling Dylan Strome and Brendan Perlini.

Schmaltz has become a part of the Coyotes future core, while Strome has done similar in Chicago. Perlini, on the other hand, is still looking to find a home.

December January and February also saw trades. The ‘Yotes made deals with the Anaheim Ducks, Philadelphia Flyers, Montreal Canadiens, and Nashville Predators.

None of those trades were very noticeable so we did not feel the need to call them out individually. Now let’s see if we can use the past to predict the future.

2019-20 Season?

It is safe to say the Arizona Coyotes will not be making a trade-in October, and with the state of the team on the rise, it is not like the Coyotes are killing to add any player to fix the lineup.

I do see the Coyotes making a few minor trades to tweak their lineup. Whether it be bringing in a defenseman to help the blue line as they miss Niklas Hjalmarsson and Jordan Oesterle, or maybe it is bringing in another forward to help add just a little more depth.

The season is wide open for the Coyotes, and because of it unless they implode in November I do not see them making trade till January. Unless the Coyotes are looking to add help on the blue line, then a trade could happen in December.

The Arizona Coyotes season is finally in full swing. I think it is safe to say that trades will play a piece in the season’s success in some way shape or form.
