Taylor Hall is without a doubt the Arizona Coyotes best hockey player. However, having Hall with the Coyotes has been both a blessing and a curse.
Taylor Hall has been rather impressive with the Arizona Coyotes. He so far has 17 points through 19 games this season, some of the goals and assists he’s making are rather remarkable. Having Hall has come at a price though.
The Arizona Coyotes are 23rd in the league in points since acquiring Taylor Hall. Their record is 7-9-3 in that time, and there are 4 Pacific Division teams with more points during that time. The Coyotes have only gotten 17 points since December 16th, 2019. Since then the Vancouver Canucks have gotten 29, the Edmonton Oilers have gotten 22 and the Vegas Golden Knights and Calgary Flames have each gotten 20.
The Coyotes are falling behind in the standings, we look worse now than when we did before acquiring Taylor Hall. Maybe this play would have happened regardless of the Coyotes acquiring Hall, but the facts remain that this team has been worse with him than without him.

Hall is sixth on the team in Corsi percentage with a 50.5% rating, and he is third on the team in Fenwick percentages at even strength at 52.1% It is not like Hall is getting special treatment because of the background he has, Hall is splitting most of his zone starts pretty equally in the offensive and defensive zone, and he is playing the most out of any forward averaging 18:47 minutes a game.
Maybe the Coyotes are just not supposed to win with Taylor Hall, if that is the case I would try and work to get something for him sooner rather than later. Not making the playoffs is not going to help build a resume that will make Hall want to re-sign here. If we are not going to win, let’s try and get a draft pick and a prospect in a trade for him. Making a trade like that might hurt John Chayka and the Coyotes ego, but at the same time so would missing the playoffs.
