Despite a minor trade to make our AHL team a little better the Arizona Coyotes stayed quiet on trade deadline Monday. There are some good things and bad things that come out of that decision.

Making a trade just for the case of making a trade is not a recipe for winning a Stanley Cup, and I think John Chayka understands that. The NHL trade deadline this year was kind of boring for the Pacific, yes we saw teams the Edmonton Oilers, Vegas Golden Knights, and Calgary Flames all add pieces to try and push for the playoffs, but that does not take away from our team. It might even make things harder for the teams that added pieces as they try to figure out how to best use all of their new pieces.

In my opinion, the Coyotes had their big season addition when they traded for Taylor Hall. I know there are always going to be pressures around this time of the year to improve your team, but for John Chayka, the best thing to do was stand pat.

If this team misses the playoffs Chayka will look great for not wasting any more prospects or picks in the hopes of making a run at the playoffs, but if they do make it he will look like a genius who knew this team was all ready to go.

Only time will tell whether or not the Coyotes are playoff ready. I saw their name circulated with a few players on the market yesterday, but it would have cost the team too high. I thought it was more likely we were going to sell at the deadline instead of buy, but hey I guess we did neither right?

The Coyotes were not going to be saved by bringing in some players at the trade deadline. Yes, we could use some help, we are not the best team in the league by far. However, adding a player just for the sake of adding a player is not a recipe for success, especially when the market did not have anything that really could have been a game-changer.

Well, the market did have one game-changer, but we took him off the table in December when we traded for him!

The Coyotes are back in action tonight at home against the Florida Panthers!
