Archuleta’s Ducks Take Grigsby’s Winnipeg Jets In Game One 4-2

Nadia Archuleta – (Editor of Mile high sticking) vs. William Grigsby – (Editor of Howlin’ hockey)

First game goes to the Ducks, who as predicted by Nadia, would prevail. She was so correct about Corey Perry being a huge factor for the Ducks. His four points (two and two) paced his team, as they came back from a 2-1 deficit after two periods. His usual 0.82 points per game was blown out of the duck pond by 3.18 points!

Nadia’s comment that the one-two punch of Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry is practically unrivaled in the NHL really shot down the Winnipeg Jets, with some force. Last time I checked the game lasts 60 minutes, and the Winnipeg Jets played 40 pretty well… enough to scare the feathers off the Ducks early. Then, just like in the Blackhawks game vs the Predators — reality set in, and the best team (at least on this night) became very apparent.

When Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry account for seven of the possible twelve points scored by the team… or a whopping 58.3%, you know they are an important cog in Anaheim’s wheel of success. The Winnipeg Jets need to figure those two out, or their jet engines may stall in mid-flight.

Now that I’ve used every cliché (well.. not really I have more..) I can muster, it all comes down to execution. Being the editor of Howlin’ hockey, I saw more times than I care to express my Arizona Coyotes crumble in the third period. They were the worse at it in the NHL. And, with that deficit you are not going to win many games.

Going forward, I’d say the Winnipeg Jets need to stop acting like their stepchild Arizona Coyotes, and finish strongly or they will find themselves joining the other teams who are not playing right now.

Wheeler needs to put his huge frame on Perry, and shadow him to prevent him from going every which way but loose out there. Check him a few times, and we shall see if he retains that scoring prowess. The tempers flared at the final horn in this game when Blake Wheeler and Clayton Stoner were showing their tempers. Wheeler needs to address some of that anger at Perry, and keep him off the score-sheet.

Nadia is predicting Ducks in four, and so far she is right on. I’m predicting Jets in six, and they will need to take this next game on Saturday to keep that prediction alive.

NEXT GAME PREDICTION: Jets 4, Ducks 3 in OT. (Wheeler gets game winner)
