“Don’t give me the stare down, I’ve got seven points this year, life is good.” – Martin Hanzal, Arizona Coyotes center

The Arizona Coyotes win streak has ended, but they gave it a good fight. The power play had its chances without any success.

All good things must come to an end, and the Arizona Coyotes learned that the hard way by losing their first game of the season 4-3 at Gila River arena. Going down early 3-0 was their downfall. Mike Smith was not playing up to the level he had been, especially on the Wild’s second goal, which eluded Smith on the short side. A purely stoppable shot, but Smith was not up to the task.

When it became 3-0, Head Coach Dave Tippett had seen enough, and replaced Smith with his backup Anders Lindback, who held the Wild to one goal the rest of the way.

Again, the youth group dominated the scoring with Max Domi collecting a goal and an assist, and Anthony Duclair recording his fourth goal in two games. Michael Stone finished the scoring off with a nice wide open goal, with the assist going to Captain Coyote, his 899th point. Perhaps Doaner can get that 900th point Saturday night against the Boston Bruins.

The bright notes were Max Domi and Anthony Duclair coming through again with goals. They both have six points, the most by any rookies in the NHL so far this season. Martin Hanzal has seven points, all assists, and looks like his back is fine. He’s getting involved, and showing signs that if he can play most of the season he will be a scoring leader on the team. When Antione Vermette went down with a lower body injury, Coach Tippett put Hanzal with Domi and Duclair. That line was awesome, and had plenty of scoring chances.
