Ivan Provorov Might Be The Player the Arizona Coyotes Need

The Arizona Coyotes are facing what could be their most important draft choice in team history, and quite frankly, I’m shocked I have not heard Provorov’s name more. Am I the only person who sees shades of Oliver Ekman-Larsson when I see this young Russian defender play?! Both are well-rounded defensemen who know how to play in their zone, they can both throw around the body if needed, and they both know how to shred opposing defense and light up the lamp.

Standing at 6’0”, he would be the shortest defender on the Coyotes roster; however this jack-of-all-trades defender might be exactly what the Arizona Coyotes need. Putting up 61 points (15g-46a) in just 60 games with the Brandon Wheat Kings, he has proven he knows how to use his teammates well.  The Arizona Coyotes are lacking in almost in every department, and Provorov is skilled in almost every department. He is the perfect player to add to a rebuilding process.

Provorov can spin an incredible defensive play into a stellar offensive opportunity: to take the puck from his own zone and turn it into a chance across the rink. The Arizona Coyotes are in desperate need of a player who can handle play in all three zones of the rink and Provorov can provide this to the Desert Dogs.

The Arizona Coyotes with Provorov– Seeing Ekman-Larsson and Provorov play together would truly be a scene worth watching; they play so similarly, it would look like they were twins. It would probably be one of the most well-balanced defensive lines in the league, with both players contributing to the offense as much as they do to the defense.

A majority of the Coyotes offense would start from the blue line, and no one would be afraid to toss the puck back to the defenders, if needed. The real sight to behold would be the power-play; offensive d-men shine during the man-advantage, and if Provorov keeps to the form he is in now, the Arizona Coyotes power-play would become one of the most deadly in the league.

Alternatively, you could place him on a different line with the likes of Michael Stone, John Moore, Klas Dahlbeck, or even Andre Campbell. Having two complete package defensemen on two different lines would give us the team more depth, and would keep the plays from the blue line going smoothly on multiple lines.

What’s the chances of the Arizona Coyotes landing such a talent? It all depends on what happens at the draft next week. If the Yotes trade down a bit, by acquiring another player for their number three overall pick, you could see Provorov’s name called, and that wouldn’t be a bad thing at all.
